Evaluations

Our evaluation process gives us insight into your child's communication development. During your first appointment, we will use a combination of the following measures to learn about your child's speech, language, and social skills:

  • Caregiver interview

  • Observations

  • Formal assessment

Following the evaluation, we will share our findings, make recommendations, and discuss options for care. Oftentimes, we can provide therapeutic ideas for parents to implement at home right away! You and your pediatrician will receive a written report within one to two weeks, and if therapy is recommended, we will work with you to determine a therapy schedule that works for your family.

Therapy

At Sandhills Therapy Solutions, we create a welcoming and energetic environment for children to learn! Our sessions are both research-based and full of fun activities, such as:

  • Child-led play

  • Movement activities

  • Imaginative scenarios

  • Learning through music and rhythm

  • Board games

  • Social experiences

  • Interactive games

It is our goal to match your child with the best therapist for them! After each session, your speech-language therapist will provide you with ideas for naturally working "therapy" into your child's everyday activities. Our clients make amazing progress when their parents help them practice new skills between sessions!

Speech Sound Therapy

Speech therapy can help your child use the correct sounds in words and sentences. We begin by determining the nature of their difficulties- whether developmental, anatomical, neurological, or functional- and then use the most effective treatment methods to help them:

  • Use all age-appropriate sounds

  • Speak clearly so that others understand

  • Communicate with less frustration

  • Gain early literacy skills (reading & spelling)

  • Become more independent and confident

  • Experience more positive social interactions

Language and AAC Therapy

Language therapy can help your child communicate through oral language, sign, and even a high-tech AAC device! We start by figuring out the root of their challenges and support their ability to understand and use language as they grow. Our social and play-based therapy sessions can improve:

  • Understanding of words, feelings, directions, comments, questions, and verbal information

  • Self-expression through gestures and words

  • Quality of interactions with peers and adults

  • Foundational skills for academic success, required for reading and writing

  • Independence in social and academic settings

Social Skills Therapy

Social communication skills are important for understanding others and forming quality relationships. We will consider your family culture, our societal standards, and how your child adapts to social situations in order to help them:

  • Connect with others through communication

  • Progress through the hierarchy of play

  • "Read the room" to gain social and behavioral information from their surroundings

  • Stay on topic, participate in conversations, and maintain attention with others
